Coming Home With a Baby Changes Everything

Everyone prepares you for the birth. Far fewer people prepare you for what happens when you come home.

The feeding. The unsettled evenings. The broken sleep. Recovering from birth while caring for a tiny new person. Wondering whether what your baby is doing is normal. Trying to remember everything you were told while running on very little sleep.

Sometimes you don't need more information. You need someone experienced beside you.

Nest & Nurture provides gentle, practical postnatal and newborn support in your own home, giving you time to rest and recover while helping you become more confident caring for your baby.

This isn't about taking over. It's about supporting you until things begin to feel a little easier.

Meet Tammy

Hello, I'm Tammy.

I'm a New Zealand Registered Nurse with more than 30 years of nursing experience and a professional background that includes postnatal care, primary health care, and general medical and surgical nursing.

But Nest & Nurture isn't simply about my qualifications.
It grew from something I believe very strongly: new parents deserve to be cared for too.

So much attention naturally turns towards the baby after birth, while the person who has just given birth is recovering physically, adapting emotionally and learning how to care for a newborn — often on very little sleep.

I've experienced that transition as both a healthcare professional and a mother.

That's why my approach combines the reassurance of an experienced Registered Nurse with the warmth, patience and practical support traditionally associated with postnatal doula care.

When I visit your home, there is no rigid checklist. Perhaps you need to sleep while I care for your baby. Perhaps you'd like someone beside you while you practise settling, bathing, feeding or reading your baby's cues. Perhaps you're recovering from a Caesarean or difficult birth and simply need the afternoon to stop feeling quite so overwhelming. Or perhaps everything is technically going well — but you would feel better knowing an experienced person is there.

That's what Nest & Nurture is for.

My role is to complement — never replace — the care provided by your midwife/LMC, GP, Well Child provider or other healthcare professionals.

How I Can Support You

  • Every family is different, so every visit is different.

Depending on what you need that day, your support may include:

    • Caring for your newborn while you sleep, shower or simply take a break
    • Gentle newborn settling techniques
    • Understanding newborn sleep cues and age-appropriate sleep foundations
    • Practical newborn care and confidence-building
    • General breastfeeding and bottle-feeding support and education
    • Helping you understand your baby's cues
    • Supporting you while you recover following birth or Caesarean birth
    • Preparing a light meal or drink while you rest
    • Reassurance and a calm, non-judgemental space to ask questions
    • Helping partners feel more confident caring for baby
    • Identifying when something may need assessment by your LMC, GP, IBCLC or another healthcare professional

Most importantly, you don't have to spend the entire visit talking about your baby.

    You're allowed to rest.

You Don't Have to Figure It All Out Alone

Coming home with a new baby can be beautiful — and overwhelming. You may be recovering from birth, learning your baby's cues, navigating feeding and settling, running on very little sleep, or simply wondering whether what you're experiencing is normal.

That's where Nest & Nurture comes in.

I provide gentle, practical postnatal and newborn support in your own home, with the reassurance of more than 30 years of nursing experience behind me. Sometimes that means helping you feel more confident caring for your newborn. Sometimes it's working through feeding, settling or sleep questions together. And sometimes the most helpful thing I can do is simply care for your baby while you shower, eat or get some much-needed sleep.

You care for your baby. Let someone care for you, too.

I'd love to hear a little about your family, your baby or your upcoming arrival and talk about what kind of support would be most helpful for you.
